Essential Question:

 How are Ancient Athenian democracy and U.S. democracy alike and different?

Your Mission

You are a democracy historian. Your job is to investigate how democracy worked in Ancient Athens and how it works in the United States today.

You will create a project that teaches about the similarities and differences between the two systems.

You are working independently.

What Your Project Must Include

Your project must compare both Athens and the United States in these areas:

1. Who Participated in the government?

Explain:

Who could participate in Athenian government?

Who can participate in U.S. government?

Who was excluded (left out) in Athens?

Who is excluded (left out) in the U.S.?

How has participation changed from Athens to modern day?

2. Voting

Explain:

Who could vote in Athenian government?

How did Athenians vote?

Who can vote in American government?

How do Americans vote?

What is the difference between direct and representative democracy?

3. Government

Compare:

How were/are laws created

How were/are leaders selected

How were/are decisions made

4. Rights & Responsibilities

Compare:

What were/are basic rights of citizens

What were/are responsibilities of citizens

5. Similarities & Differences

Your project must include at least 3 similarities and 5 differences between the two systems.

Project Requirements

Your finished project must have:

~ Detailed information about the United States

~ 3 or more similarities

~ 5 or more differences

~ 2-4 PICTURES on ALL slides (NO GIFS or MEMES.  Only still pictures.)

~ Transitions on ALL slides

~ Slideshow must have a THEME

~ Slide LAYOUTS should not repeat from one slide to the next

~ A comparison of direct and representative democracy

~ A conclusion explaining what you learned

~ Correct spelling, grammar (check capitalization), and punctuation.
